Ingredients to make Jeera Potato
- Boiled Potatoes – 5, (400 gms),
- Oil – 2-3 tbsp
- Cumin – 1.5 tsp
- Asafoetida – 1 pinch
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Green chili – 2
- Ginger – 1 tsp, grated
- Salt – as per taste
- Kasuri methi – 2 tsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tsp
- Red chili powder – 1/2 tsp,
- Black pepper powder – 1/2 tsp,
- Dry mango powder – 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala – 1/4 tsp
- Chopped coriander leaves

How to make jeera aloo step by step
Note– To make cumin potatoes, boil the potatoes at least 2 hours in advance and let them cool. Only after that you make cumin potatoes. If you boil potatoes immediately and make cumin potatoes, then the potatoes will break and become very sticky.
Now put a pan on the gas and put oil in it. As soon as the oil becomes hot, we will put cumin seeds first. Let the cumin seeds crackle.
Now we will add asafoetida. Adding asafoetida gives a very nice aroma to cumin potatoes and asafoetida is also very good for digestion.
Now slow down the gas flame. Now we will add turmeric powder, chopped green chilies, grated ginger, you can also use ginger paste if you want. Mix everything well.
Now we will put our chopped potatoes. Make the gas flame medium. Add salt as per taste and add Dry fenugreek leaves by crusing between your palms. Now mix the potatoes and cook it for 3 to 4 minutes so that a light golden color comes.
First add coriander powder, then add red chili powder and black pepper powder and lastly add dried mango powder and garam masala powder. Mix everything well.
And roast the potatoes while stirring on medium high flame for 2 to 3 minutes. Now your potatoes are cooked perfectly, add some chopped coriander and mix.
Switch off the gas flame and serve hot. You can eat this dry cumin potato curry with bread naan roti.
Special tips for making cumin potatoes
- To make cumin potatoes, boil the potatoes for 2 hours in advance and keep the peel to cool. This will make your cumin potatoes very good.
- If you want, you can also make potatoes without boiling them. But in that only care has to be taken on the cooking process as if the potatoes are not covered in the beginning. First the potatoes become crisp, then the potatoes are pushed and cooked.
- You can make potatoes more or less spicy according to your taste.
- You can also skip dry fenugreek leaves if you want. Or if you want, you can add Kasuri Methi after roasting it a little.
- You can also make cumin potatoes in ghee or olive oil .
- White potatoes are best for making cumin potatoes. But if you use low fat potatoes like red potatoes then it is even better.

- Cut the boiled potatoes . Here I have cut the potatoes in a long shape.You can cut it in any shape according to your choice.
- Now put a pan on the gas and put oil in it. As soon as the oil becomes hot, we will put cumin seeds first. Let the cumin seeds crackle.
- Now we will add asafoetida. Adding asafoetida gives a very nice aroma to cumin potatoes and asafoetida is also very good for digestion.
